Encap was established in 2006 at Oslo Innovation Center. During its first years of operation Encap invested in technology development and established an experienced team.

Unique product
Encap has developed a unique and patented product for using a mobile phone as a security device for online user authentication.
• Encap turns an ordinary mobile phone into a "proof of possession” element for two-factor authentication.
• The same mobile phone can be used as a security device for different online services. The user need not keep track of different tokens for different online services and does not have to remember a multitude of PIN codes.

Patented technology
In August 2007, Encap was awarded a patent for "a method and system for secure user authentication using a personal data terminal".

Global market opportunity
Over 150 million people in developed markets will be using their mobile phones as an additional banking channel by 2011, according to a study from Juniper Research. The market for online card payment authentication is global through Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode (3-D Secure). The enterprise markets and e-Government services are also sectors where Encap can provide a disruptive solution for user security.

Experienced team
The Encap team has a comprehensive background from the banking and telecom industries. The founder has been working in with mobile security and payment since 1998. The co-inventor has more than 30 years experience from the banking industry. Remaining team members all have more than 15 years experience from the banking, card and mobile sectors.
